19th-century Scagliola Coffee Table
Coffee table with a scagliola top, resting on two stepped legs.
The rectangular top is a superb example of Neapolitan Baroque scagliola art, with its intricate decoration. The central oval medallion is highlighted by an emerald-green frame adorned with plant-inspired motifs, around which generous scrollwork in shades of ochre, brown, and green, creating a striking contrast against a background of light gray veined marble. The outer band of the tabletop features complex trompe-l’œil designs, exquisitely detailed floral motifs (tulips and roses), and black-and-white angles that form a structured geometric frame, along with a long frieze evoking the Mediterranean Sea in a magnificent lapis lazuli blue.
The tabletop rests on two massive, stepped legs, whose appearance harmonizes with the upper decoration. Carved in a staircase pattern, they feature a beige-pink hue. A thin slab of dark green marble placed near the floor creates a direct visual connection with the vibrant green that borders the central medallion of the tabletop.
Length: 150 cm
Width: 89 cm.
