Empire-style Athenian Lamp In Gilded Bronze

Neoclassical Athenian Empire-style lamp in gilded bronze with two patinas and black-patinated sheet metal.
The lamp is illuminated by two bulbs, whose light is reflected off the gilded inner surface of the lampshade.
The conical-shaped shade is lacquered black and accented with two gold-colored bands.
The tripod base consists of gilded bronze elements shaped like swan necks, ending in lion’s paws.
The entire piece rests on a circular base adorned with a garland of laurel leaves in relief. The center is accented by a flower.

Athenian lamps are a reinterpretation of ancient Greek models that were originally used as incense burners. The design, revived in the 19th century, was used as an oil lamp before being converted for electric use.
A very beautiful, finely chiseled lamp that has retained its vibrant gilding, with a lampshade in good condition.
