"swan" Charles X Nightlight: Gilded Bronze And Cut Crystal

"Swan" nightlight from the Charles X period, in mercury-gilded bronze and cut crystal.

A very beautiful indoor nightlight made of finely chiseled, gilded bronze and cut crystal, dating from the early 19th century.
This decorative and functional object was used to provide a soft light at night thanks to a wick floating in oil.

Base: Tripod base with concave sides, adorned with a central rosette finial and accented by an engraved frieze featuring palmette motifs. The assembly rests on three ball-shaped feet. ​Shank and bracket: A smooth cylindrical shaft topped by a bracket depicting a very finely chiseled swan. The swan’s beak holds the suspension cap, topped by a seed-shaped finial. ​Hand-blown and hand-cut crystal receptacle, featuring a lower section with a diamond-point motif machined in relief and an upper fluted section with vertical facets.  ​Suspension: The lampshade is held in place by a circular bronze band engraved with oves and palmettes, suspended from the finial by three original chains with oval links.
