A rare hunting dagger from the Louis XIV or Regency period (late 17th or early 18th century). This piece is a hunting sidearm featuring a straight blade stamped with a cartouche bearing the cutler's name, "Fabre.S". The cast bronze hilt is attractively decorated with a twisted rib pattern. Such daggers or hunting knives were used by hunting officials and noblemen to dispatch game during the hunt. Length: 37.5 cm. Traces of oxidation on the blade, minor dings on the hilt; very slight play between the blade and the hilt.
