A Pair Of Tassel Curtain Ties Made Of Silk Trimmings And Gilded Rods - France, C. 1860
Circa 1860
France
A remarkable pair of curtain tiebacks with richly detailed tassels, originating from a château in the Luberon and dating from the Second Empire period. Crafted from royal blue silk on a wooden frame, featuring twisted cords sheathed in blue and gold silk threads. This craftsmanship is rooted in the great tradition of the passementiers’ guild dating back to the 17th century, following the techniques described in d’Alembert & Diderot’s encyclopedia. The silk threads are partially frayed, particularly on the cords. It has a natural patina with no major or structural flaws. The color and overall condition are good. Suitable for 18th- or 19th-century-style decor.
Dimensions: Height of each tassel 34 cm. Height of the skirt 21 cm. Total height approximately 80 cm
