Drunken fauness. Carved walnut relief, circa 1850, in the spirit of seventeenth-century Flemish sculpture. A dancing female faun, with an unsettling smile, raises her cup in a Bacchanalian gesture. The fleshy modelling of the forms heightens the sensual and picturesque character of the composition. The bunches of grapes allude to Bacchus. Crack in the fur and minor knocks.
