Important Neoclassical White Earthenware Tureen – Giustiniani, Naples, C. 1810–1820

A spectacular and imposing white earthenware (creamware) tureen with lid, executed in a distinctly Neoclassical style by the renowned Real Fabbrica Giustiniani of Naples in the early 19th century. The piece features a hemispherical bowl encircled by a relief band of classical-inspired foliate motifs, surmounted by a domed lid topped with a pinecone finial. The body rests on a tripod base clearly derived from the archaeology of Herculaneum and Pompeii; it consists of lion-paw feet—connected at the top by feline protomes—resting on a shaped circular plinth. Mark: Impressed letter "G" beneath the base (mark of the Giustiniani manufactory). Period: Early 19th century (Empire/Restoration era, c. 1810–1820). Condition: Excellent overall state of preservation with original patina; free of workshop restorations. Shows minor nicks along the edges consistent with use and a fine hairline crack (from settling or firing) on ​​the inner rim of the lid. Dimensions: Height: 40 cm; Maximum diameter: 30 cm.
