A refined example of 18th-century court portraiture and the high Lombard aristocracy, this work depicts a noblewoman in half-length portrait, viewed in three-quarter profile, gazing with serene confidence toward the viewer. The figure emerges from a dark, neutral background that highlights the opulence of her garments and the delicacy of her complexion, rendered according to the aesthetic canons of the 18th century. The lady wears a sumptuous gala gown in deep blue velvet, featuring a wide neckline edged with refined white bobbin lace and embellished with embroidered details along the seams of the bodice. Draped over her shoulders is an elegant, bright red cloak, lined with damask fabric featuring floral motifs. Her hairstyle, pulled back and powdered in the fashion of the time, is crowned by a delicate lace and feather headpiece adorned with pearls, from which a soft lock of hair cascades naturally over her left shoulder.

From an iconographic and symbolic perspective, the composition is enriched by two elements of strong communicative significance: the blooming rose, delicately held in her right hand at chest level—a traditional symbol of youth, grace, and beauty; and the small companion dog (likely a lap dog such as an epagneul or a papillon), lovingly cradled in her left arm—a historic symbol of loyalty, devotion, and domestic virtue.
