Artist: Jean Volang 1921-2005

Jean VOLANG, whose real name was Vo LANg, was born in Hué (the former capital of Vietnam) in 1921; he settled in Paris in 1949, He graduated from the French School of Fine Arts in Hanoi
A student of Professor Joseph Inguimberty, who awarded him a diploma in 1942
Winner of the Indochina Salon Prize in 1943
Recipient of theSilver Medal from the City of Paris
He initially pursued a career in diplomacy before returning to painting
A traveling artist, he exhibited extensively abroad—in the United States, Singapore, Hong Kong, etc.—and, of course, in France, primarily in Paris and Nice.
He transcends materials and colors, enveloping them in a mysterious halo. His blurred and softened contours, rendered in the Impressionist style, earned him the nickname “the Vietnamese Renoir”
Volang succeeded in creating a highly personal synthesis of Far Eastern and Western cultures.
The result: poetry, a reality transposed into a waking dream, a palette of warm tones, and painting that moves the viewer
