An impressive French oak torchère or pedestal dating from the 17th century, distinguished by its tall, elegant proportions and richly worked architectural form. Standing 132.5 cm high, this substantial antique pedestal was designed to elevate and display a decorative object, sculpture, candleholder or other treasured piece within an interior.

The torchère is constructed in solid oak and features a beautifully turned central stem composed of a succession of elongated, baluster-shaped and moulded elements. The slender proportions of the shaft are balanced by a broad circular stepped base, providing both visual weight and stability.
