Popular devotional object, handmade and carefully assembled inside a sealed glass bottle.
The composition depicts the Crucifixion of Christ, flanked by two female figures, the Virgin and Mary Magdalene. Around the crucifix are arranged miniature Arma Christi — ladder, hammer, spear, sponge — finely carved from soft wood and painted by hand. The base is made of dried vegetal moss, a typical feature of naïve religious compositions from the early 20th century.
This type of object belongs to the tradition of Christian folk art: Anglo‑Saxon bottle whimsies, German Flaschenaltäre, and domestic devotional assemblages from Northern Italy.
