Set Of Six English Mahogany Chairs From The Late Victorian Era, Circa 1890–1900

This set of six solid mahogany dining chairs elegantly illustrates the revival of the Georgian / Chippendale style that characterized the late 19th century in England.

The top rail of the backrests is crowned with a delicate, stylized shell carving, while the openwork central upright features sinuous cutwork reminiscent of a graphic interlacing pattern.
The front legs extend into vigorous, curved “cabriole” legs, whose tips feature the symbolic motif of an eagle’s talons clutching a sphere. The carving of these claws is crisp, dynamic, and attests to the craftsmanship of British cabinetmakers from the late Victorian era.
The entire structure is in particularly sound condition, stable, and features exceptionally sturdy joints.
The mahogany wood has a warm, aged patina with slight superficial signs of wear that confirm the age and authenticity of these chairs.
The upholstery and the seats with removable frames were reupholstered around the mid-20th century. They are covered in velvet that is clean and in good condition.
A beautifully crafted set, ideal for pairing with a period or period-style dining table.
