Elegant and large antique wall-mounted crucifix-holy water font from the Napoleon III era (circa 1878), a masterfully crafted piece from the workshops of the famous foundryman Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810–1892).
Christ on the cross is crafted from finely chiseled bronze with its original golden patina. He rests on a cross richly adorned with panels of cloisonné and champlevé enamel. The entire structure is punctuated by superb red glass cabochons set to resemble precious stones. The base of the cross features a matching faceted gilded and enameled bronze bowl. The bronze plate is mounted on its original wall-mounted bracket made of molded blackened wood, creating a striking contrast that enhances the brilliance of the gilding and the enamels. A private devotional piece of particularly large dimensions and remarkable craftsmanship.
