African Ethnic Cut
We are offering for sale this cup on a pedestal, which we consider to be an ethnic artifact from Africa. We believe, with good reason, that it comes from Benin.
It is made of bronze and features African animals around its rim.
It is an antique; I think it dates back to the 19th century at the latest. I can’t say for sure—perhaps toward the end of the century.
The animals depicted around the circumference of this object are rendered in a very naive style.
I now understand why this African art could have inspired our great artists so much.
It is slightly dented at the base, but otherwise in good condition.
Weight: 1415g
