This Baoulé bell with external clappers was operated by the nganga (the sorcerer).
This minkisi played an essential role in the performance of certain rituals. The geometric symbols on the sides represent ethnic scarifications; the mother, kneeling on the Dibu, is also symbolic, but one needs the key to understanding these peoples to further decipher this beautiful object.
