17th-century Rock Crystal And Gilded Metal Amulet Medallion

A rare rock crystal and gilded metal (probably silver) medallion
consisting of two halves set in a claw mount with a hinge and a suspension ring.
The interior features three spherical notches designed to hold “crab’s eyes” to ward off evil spells and protect against illness.
Germany, late 17th century.
Shows signs of wear; one crack in a corner, visible in the photo marked with an arrow. No other damage. The prongs are intact and the medallion closes perfectly.
