Mathurin MEHEUT—Study of the Sea: Fauna and Flora of the English Channel and the Ocean.
Paris, Editions Albert Lévy, Librairie Centrale des Beaux-Arts, 1924.
New two-volume edition, text by M.-P. Verneuil, preface by Yves Delage, member of the Institut de France.
A comprehensive and important work devoted to the study of marine fauna and flora, richly illustrated based on the observations and drawings of Mathurin MEHEUT; fish, crustaceans, mollusks, jellyfish, starfish, sea urchins, and other marine organisms.
Two large folio volumes, preserved in their original gray cloth-bound publisher’s cases, with covers and spines adorned with marine motifs and titles in white.
Printed by G. Kadar, PARIS, 42 rue Falguière.
Condition: the set is well-preserved internally; pages and plates show a generally fresh appearance, with a slight patina due to age.
Original bindings show signs of wear, particularly on the caps, corners, and ends of the spines, with small tears and visible fraying of the cloth. The bindings are protected with plastic film.
