Bronze "dancing Faun From Pompeii"—a Grand Tour Bronze On Red Griotte Marble.
An elegant bronze statuette with a black patina depicting the famous Dancing Faun, based on the ancient original discovered during the excavations at Pompeii.
The original model, unearthed in the famous House of the Faun in Pompeii, became one of the iconic figures of Greco-Roman antiquity as early as the 19th century. It was widely reproduced in bronze for travelers and collectors on the Grand Tour.
Our example displays fine craftsmanship, particularly evident in the rendering of the anatomy, the hair, and the beard, as well as in the figure’s highly animated pose, captured in the midst of a dance.
The bronze rests on an elegant quadrangular base made of red griotte marble, whose warm tone particularly enhances the bronze’s dark patina.
