Léon Danchin, born in Lille on June 21, 1887, and died in Bergues on August 4, 1938, was a French sculptor, animal painter, and engraver.
While his sculptures are rare, he achieved a European reputation as a watercolorist specializing in animal subjects.
About three hundred of his works are known, notably through lithographs and engravings, particularly those depicting hunting scenes. His depiction of the subjects’ poses (dogs, game) is flawless, which is not surprising for such a passionate hunter. Approximately 300 engravings or lithographs and about thirty bronze sculptures can be found at http://leon.danchin.free.fr/
