BIOGRAPHY:
Élise Honorine Pitet, known as Élisa Champin, born in Paris around 1807 and died in 1871 in Sceaux, was a French watercolorist and lithographer specializing in the painting of flowers, fruits, vegetables, fish, etc.
She was a student at the Royal Special and Free School of Drawing for Young People (precursor to the National School of Decorative Arts), where she won prizes for her flower depictions in 1819, 1820, and 1823.
She was also a student of Adèle Riché.
She exhibited at the Salon as "Mlle Pitet" from 1833 to 1836.
After marrying the French painter Jean-Jacques Champin (1796-1860) in 1837, she exhibited regularly under the name "Élisa Champin" until 1848. She notably created a series of plates for the Vilmorin Album, published between 1851 and 1861 by the Vilmorin-Andrieux seed company.
