Louis Leloup - Pink Crystal Sulfide With Spiral Design - 2006

Artist: Louis Leloup
A solid crystal piece titled “Sulfure” created by Belgian master glassblower Louis Leloup (1929–2025), signed and dated 2006 on the base.
Spherical in shape and slightly flattened, this piece features an abstract composition centered around a prominent spiral motif.
The crystal displays various shades of pink, raspberry, and wine-red, combined with lighter, translucent areas.
The layering of material, filaments, variations in density, and internal inclusions give the design a depth that changes depending on the viewing angle.
The substantial crystal mass (1.68 kg and 11 cm in diameter) particularly accentuates these effects of color and transparency.
Louis Leloup and the Art of Crystal Born in Seraing in 1929, Louis Leloup joined the Val Saint Lambert crystal works in 1947.
There, he developed his skills in hot crystal working and experimented with multi-rod blowing, a technique that allowed him to create particularly complex pieces.
After contributing to the creations presented by Val Saint Lambert at the 1958 Brussels World’s Fair, he left the factory in 19*71 to pursue an independent career.
His work was subsequently featured in numerous exhibitions in Belgium and abroad, notably in France, Switzerland, Germany, the United States, Canada, and Asia.
The document detailing his career mentions, among others:
Tokyo, the Museum of Fine Arts in Nancy, Paris, Basel, Luxembourg, Scottsdale, Carmel, Miami, Quebec, Taipei, and Nara.
In 1997, a museum dedicated to his work opened in Japan.
The Grand Curtius in Liège also houses about twenty of his works, including several sculptures created around the turn of the 1980s.
