Henry II Bookcase In Solid Oak
Made of solid oak, featuring twoglazed doors opening onto five shelves.
Numerous finely carved motifslend the piece the character of a high-quality library cabinet:
On the uprights: a painter’spalette and brushes, alongside a writer’s quill and book.
On one door panel: thearchitect’s attributes—compass, level, drafting plan, ruler, and capital.
On the other: the musician’sharp, horn, and sheet music.
The openwork pediment—featuring aglobe, compass, geography book, telescope, and ruler—evokes the era's spirit ofadventure and exploration (recalling Jules Verne and the great voyagers of thetime).
Discreetly concealed within theplinth is a "forbidden section" (*l'Enfer*), guarded by a handleshaped like the head of Cerberus.
On the upper front upright, thecartouche intended for the owner's coat of arms or initials remains blank.
