La Margeride - Blown-glass Ring-shaped Flask With Engraved Decoration, 18th-century Folk Art
A ring-shaped, hand-blown glass flask featuring three grooved, applied medallions on each side, as well as an engraved design of wheat ears and the initials FLC. The sides are adorned with two thick ribbons formed with pliers and fused onto the glass while hot; the thick neck is embellished with a fluted band.
Manufacture royale de la Margeride, last third of the 18th century.
Height 21 cm—base approximately 8 x 6 cm.
Surviving pieces from this Cantal factory can be recognized by their pinkish patina, the result of the numerous manufacturing recipes experimented with during the 18th century, most of which were unstable over time.
The raised patterns and side bands are intact.
The neck has a crack and some missing pieces along the band.
