František Vízner (1936–2011), a leading figure in Czech glass art, trained at the prestigious glassmaking schools in Nový Bor and Železný Brod before completing his studies at the Academy of Applied Arts in Prague. After graduating, he first worked as a glass designer at Sklo Union in Teplice, then specialized in hot-formed art glass at the Center for Glass Arts and Crafts in Škrdlovice. In 1975, he left the Czechoslovak glass industry to pursue a successful career as an independent artist, specializing in cut glass.

Throughout his career, Vízner has focused on creating harmonious geometric objects imbued with an inner tension. While his pieces draw inspiration from the utilitarian forms of bowls and plates, their pure and simple volumes are more akin to non-functional sculptural forms. These compact and timeless forms attest to Vízner’s sense of proportion, his admiration for glass, and, above all, his exceptional craftsmanship. No detail disrupts the harmony and rationality of his objects. His work conceals a passion that he reveals only gradually. Vizner’s extraordinary objects, with their clean, precise lines and deep, luminous colors, continue to impress collectors around the world and are featured in the collections of the world’s leading museums: the Museum of Applied Arts and Crafts in Prague, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris, the Corning Museum of Glass, and many others.
