Marquetry Chest Of Drawers, Louis XV–louis XVI Transition Style – Mid-20th Century

This mahogany and rosewood marquetry chest of drawers, crafted in the Transition style, is distinguished by the subtle harmony between the emerging rigor of the Louis XVI style and the curves inherited from the Louis XV period. Its griotte marble top lends a mineral quality that contrasts with the warmth of the woods. The fronts, adorned with diamond-shaped motifs executed with great precision, highlight the cabinetmaker’s mastery and give the piece a timeless, graphic elegance. The three drawers are fitted with bronze drop-ring handles, accompanied by finely crafted lock plates, while the functional key and lock attest to the care taken in crafting this piece. The side panels are embellished with bronze finials, adding a refined vertical dimension, and the delicately carved, curved legs complete the silhouette, giving it a look that is both graceful and balanced. This chest of drawers, with its beautiful patina and striking decorative presence, embodies traditional craftsmanship and a classic aesthetic that blend naturally into an elegant interior, whether classic or contemporary.
