Works by Couderc are frequently encountered, featuring washes of sepia,Indian ink, and sanguine, depicting landscapes of the Basque Country or the Landes region.
For many years, we have been purchasing his works, which we have preparedand framed in period styles without really knowing who he was, simply captivatedby this style that borders on the naïve, yet is so sincere and poetic.
It was elderly people who had known him who provided us with theinformation we have, which we share with you with allreservations : he was a watchmaker in Hendaye between the two world wars, and on Sundayshe would paint, creating these regional landscapes that he wouldlater sell to tourists in his shop.
Enchanting—the stately silhouettes of the pine trees give rhythm to thepanoramic composition and lend it a Japanese-inspired, slightly Nabi-style feel.
