Boxwood Statuette, Virgin And Child. 18th Century, France.
A lovely statuette of the Virgin and Child, carved from boxwood, 18th century. The Virgin has a beautiful expression, with a slight smile; her right hand is missing. The Child, resting on his mother’s left arm, has a serene expression; there is a minor damage to his left hand. One foot is missing. The drapery of the Virgin’s gown, which is slightly flared at the hips, is beautifully rendered. She wears a short veil and a long cloak.
