Napoleon III Silver-plated Medici Champagne & Wine Cooler, France 19th Century

An elegant French silver-plated metal wine or champagne cooler of classical Medici form, dating from the Napoleon III period in the second half of the 19th century.

Beautifully proportioned, the cooler features a generous rounded body raised on a substantial circular pedestal foot, with a tall cylindrical upper section and a broad removable cover. The highly polished silver-plated surface gives the piece a striking presence, enhanced by its sculptural silhouette and refined decorative details.

The cooler is engraved with the monogram “GBV” and fitted with two gracefully scrolling side handles. Particularly attractive are the finely modelled foliate mounts securing the handles to the body, a characteristic decorative detail that adds elegance to its otherwise restrained classical design.

The piece retains its removable inner metal liner as well as its removable upper cover, making it both decorative and functional for serving and chilling wine or champagne.
