A substantial 17-volume collection titled *Musée de peinture et de sculpture* (Museum of Painting and Sculpture)—or *Recueil des principaux tableaux, statues et bas-reliefs des collections publiques et particulières de l’Europe* (Collection of the principal paintings, statues, and bas-reliefs from public and private European collections)—drawn and etched by Étienne-Achille Réveil, with descriptive, critical, and historical notes by Jean Duchesne Aîné.Paris, Audot (publisher), c. 1828–1834.This extensive publication brings together a vast array of engraved reproductions based on masterpieces held in major European public and private collections.The volumes are richly illustrated with finely executed full-page engravings, accompanied by historical and descriptive notes. The text is in French and, in certain sections, in English.The set is uniformly bound in red half-morocco with marbled paper sides; the spines feature raised bands decorated with small gilt tools, with the title and volume number stamped in gold. The gilt initials "E. J." appear at the foot of the spines.A fine library set—visually striking due to the uniformity of the bindings, yet also of great documentary interest given the scope of the works reproduced.Condition: Good overall. Some rubbing and signs of use on the bindings, as well as scattered foxing and spotting on some pages.
