​A charming 19th-century oil painting depicting a nymph reclining on her back on a bright red drape, in the heart of a woodland glade. The young woman’s gaze is directed toward the upper part of the composition, captivated by a pair of birds perched on a branch illuminated by a ray of light.
​The artist plays on a strong contrast between the lightness of the flesh, the brilliance of the drapery, and the shadows of the foliage. This bucolic and poetic scene is in the academic and Romantic tradition, blending the study of the nude with the observation of nature.
​The work is sold in its imposing original frame, made of wood with a gold-leaf finish, featuring grooves and moldings, which gives it a striking presence.
