William Raymond Dommersen was the son of the Anglo-Dutch artist Pieter Cornelis Dommersen and Anna Petronella Synja, who had moved from the Netherlands to London in 1855.
W. R. Dommersen painted high-quality genre scenes, landscapes, seascapes, and village and town scenes. His best-known works depict European villages and towns situated along rivers and canals. He painted primarily in the Netherlands and England but also visited Belgium, France, and Italy.
