Exquisite Chest of Drawers with Central Projecting Section from the Louis XV–Louis XVI Transition Period, Inlaid with Rosewood, Violetwood, Amaranth, and Precious Woods, Resting on Sheath Legs Terminating in Gilded Bronze Clogs.
This chest of drawers, which opens at the front with five drawers in three rows, is topped with a superb veined gray marble top, molded with scalloped edges. Its straight side panels feature simulated fluting embellished with bronze finials. Beautiful and rich gilded and chiseled bronze ornamentation, including clogs, pull rings, lock plates, lamp bases, and pendants. Very fine marquetry work; the central section is particularly enlivened by a large poly-lobed rosette, the side drawers adorned with fan-shaped designs. Its upper band features a repeating herringbone marquetry pattern. Beautiful finish. It comes with its keys; the locks are functional. It is stamped “J. CAUMONT” on the left front side panel.
