Carved Oak Wedding Cabinet, Louis XV Style. From The Pays De Caux Region. Late 18th Century

A large and exquisite Norman wedding chest made of solid oak, likely originating from the Pays de Caux region and dating from the late 18th century.

It opens with two large doors featuring heavily molded panels and remarkable carving.
The front features a rich decorative repertoire: medallion roses, flowers, foliage, garlands, and drapery with trimmings.

The upper transom is particularly decorative, carved with vine tendrils and grape clusters surrounding a central basket of flowers.
The central post is finely carved with a succession of flowers and foliage. The scalloped lower crossbar is adorned in the center with a rosette.

Remarkable antique hardware, including very long cut-and-ornamented iron lock plates as well as large iron lacing pins.

The back, entirely made of wooden panels and planks assembled in a traditional frame, also attests to the quality of craftsmanship.

Beautiful solid oak with a coarse grain, particularly visible on the door panels, which has retained a warm, antique patina.This cabinet is a fine example of regional Norman furniture, likely a wedding cabinet, whose abundant floral and plant motifs are characteristic of this type of ceremonial furniture.
