Bernard Lignon (1928–2017) was a French Expressionist painter. He is known for his views of Paris and Provence, floral bouquets, clowns, and occasional horse-racing scenes. He achieved international renown through exhibitions in Europe, Japan, and the United States. He moved in the same circles as César, Yves Montand, and Lino Ventura. His paintings were acquired by notable figures such as the Aga Khan, Ava Gardner, and the King of Morocco.
The Galerie Paul Pétridès, located at 53 Rue La Boétie, opened in 1947. Having become an expert on Utrillo, the gallerist commanded significant authority among artists such as Foujita, Derain, Friesz, Kisling, and Vlaminck. He also exhibited and supported many major names of the School of Paris, as well as post-war figurative painters. His standing in the art market enabled him to work with the most influential artists of the era.
