"Animated Canal In Mechelen, Signed Louis Clesse 1889-1961"
Louis Clesse, lively canal scene in Mechelen, signed lower right, painter of landscapes, still lifes, and harbor views. He frequented the Rouge-Cloître (a local landmark), but also the Belgian coast. His work is close to Impressionism and can be compared to that of Isidore Verheyden or Franz Courtens. In 1939, the municipality of Auderghem dedicated an avenue to him during his lifetime (1942).
