Important Late 18th-century Portico Clock From The Directoire Period
Important 18th-century portico clock in white marble and chiseled and gilded bronze; the side posts feature applied decor of caryatids, surmounted by sphinxes; the dial has a guilloché background with white enamel and Roman numerals, decorated with drapery and crowned by two birds standing back-to-back, flanked by natural-looking hanging garlands, resting on a base decorated with applied floral motifs and supported by four small feet. Very attractive original gilding. Late Louis XVI period or early Directoire period.
