The Baptism of Christ is an oil on canvas painted around 1580–1588 by the Italian painter Paolo Veronese and his workshop. It depicts the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist in the Jordan River, surrounded by three angels and with the dove of the Holy Spirit hovering above. Jesus is depicted leaning forward, an original posture that foreshadows the future Crucifixion through the position of his arms. The original painting is on display at the Palazzo Pitti in Florence. Our painting is a 19th-century copy.
