Rare Pair of Louis XIII Chests in Walnut – 17th Century

A very beautiful and rare pair of Louis XIII chests in solid walnut, dating from the 17th century.

Today, it is particularly difficult to find two antique chests that form a true pair, with dimensions, construction, and decorative elements so closely matched. This is what makes this set so special.

Each chest features a simple and elegant front, accentuated by bold moldings. The upper crossbar is particularly noteworthy, with its geometric design forming a central chevron-shaped point that frames a beautiful antique iron keyhole.

The chests are topped with a wide, molded rectangular top made of beautiful walnut planks. The lids lift open on long, antique iron hinges, revealing ample storage space.

The lower section is also accented by a series of generous moldings and rests on four straight legs, giving the piece a sturdy structure characteristic of furniture from this period.

Particular attention should be paid to the wide antique planks, the traditional construction, the iron hardware, and the magnificent, warm, and deep patina of the walnut, developed over several centuries.

These two chests have retained the marks and irregularities inherent to their age, which fully contribute to their authenticity and character.

A decorative pair that is rare on the market, suitable for display together or on either side of a room—in an entryway, living room, or bedroom.
