Printed fabric, from the Beautiran mill, 18th century, circa 1798.
This large curtain, quilted in a diamond pattern, features a colorful print decorated with eyelets and cassolettes in the style of Indian fabrics.
The significance of this piece lies in the header, which reads “Meillier de Beautiran près Bordeaux bon teint etc…”; although this header is reversed on the panel, it is complete.
This is what makes this panel particularly interesting, despite its wear, repairs, and additions—especially since this pattern is rarer in Beautiran, which is known for its red prints.
