It is made of mother-of-pearl and opens like a fan.
The front cover is adorned with a gold coat of arms, enameled with the initials "C de R," surmounted by a count's crown and set with diamonds.
The spandrels are also made of enameled gold and feature diamond roses.
It has a small hinge to close it.
It comes with a small wooden stylus topped with a gold cap.
There are several inscriptions on the six inner leaves.
