Zoomorphic Duck-shaped Askos Vase From Southern Italy Or Greece

A very beautiful terracotta Askos in the shape of a pot-bellied bird, witha stylized tail, a small pointed protrusion at the back of the handle, and afilling spout at the head.
The two parts are joined by a well-defined handle foran easy grip.
On the side is a very fine, truncated conical spout.
It restson a small circular foot that ensures great stability.

These vases were used to pour thecontents drop by drop, much like the Etruscan guttus vases of the same period.
Decorated with perpendicular bands on the handle andon the body, which are almost completely worn away.
This vase was recovered from archaeological excavations, which explains the traces ofconcretion resulting from its long period underground.
Ochre-brown color, red clay
Probably a Greek piece from the 5th century BCE
Height 12 cm – length 10 cm – width 9 cm
Very good condition; a tiny chip under the foot reveals theoriginal color of the clay.
