The Virgin is depicted in a cloudy atmosphere, beyond the earthly world,
holding the infant Jesus in her arms.
A pair of colorful putti crown her.
The style remains true to the tradition of the 13th- and 14th-century Italian masters, with a tendency toward soft colors and pastel tones.
The “monochrome” background subtly reveals a divine halo around Mary.
The infant Jesus, in keeping with the pictorial tradition of the Quattrocento, is depicted as somewhat older.
The gentleness of the faces, the gestures, and especially the hands
attest to the painter’s subtlety; the sculptural restraint gives
central importance to the subject: the figure of Mary, her coronation, and her son.
