Japanese-style bowl in gilded bronze and cloisonné enamel by Maison Alphonse Giroux, Duvinage & Harinkouck period, 1867–1874
A superb and rare oval cup on a footed base with Japanese-style decoration in gilded bronze and cloisonné and champlevé enamels, crafted by the prestigious Maison Alphonse Giroux under the direction of Ferdinand Duvinage and Nicolas Harinkouck, 1867–1874
The bowl features a rich polychrome design depicting a watery landscape with iris flowers, water lilies, a dragonfly, and a kingfisher, traversed by an ornamental band of foliage on a bright blue background.
It rests on an exceptional base formed by three wading birds—storks and herons—in chiseled and gilded bronze serving as legs.
On the back, the original label from the firm is partially preserved.
