Japanese-style display cabinetmade of stained wood, with a glass door; late 19th century
The wider central section is flanked by two side display cabinets. The entire piece features carved decorations of geometric and floral motifs,embellished with openwork mother-of-pearl and gilded bronze inlays.
The lower sections are decorated with panels featuring motifs inspired byAsian art, including branches of cherry blossoms.
The undulating cornice is adorned in the center with an openwork medallion.
The interior, which is illuminated, is lined with red fabric and fitted with fourglass shelves
Bears thestamped mark of the Vincent Epeaux PARIS firm:VincentÉpeaux (1862–1945)—a Parisian cabinetmaker close to Hector Guimard and a champion ofArt Nouveau. He won the silver medal at the 1900 World’s Fairand became the industrial patron of the Enfants de l’Ébénisterie in1912.
