It measures 55 cm x 46 cm (without frame) and 61 cm x 52 cm overall.

Marie Amélie Jacqueline Richet, 1908–1984, a French artist born in Paris. She was a student of Fernand Léger and André Lhote. At the same time, she began studying medicine. During the war, she organized the civilian prisoner service at the Red Cross. In October 1942, she joined the Resistance, working within the intelligence network La Confrérie Notre-Dame de Castille. She held the rank of captain there before also joining the Hector and Rémy networks. Her duties included providing shelter for escapees and paratroopers. On May 31, 1943, she was arrested by the Gestapo. She was imprisoned in Fresnes and sentenced to death. She was then deported to Ravensbrück in October 1943. Later, she was transferred to Mauthausen, a men’s camp, where she was reunited with Roger Souchère, with whom she had fought in the Resistance. She was ill and extremely weakened. The Swiss Red Cross repatriated her on April 20, 1945. Upon her return, she wrote, along with her uncle, Charles Richet, and her cousin, Olivier Richet, one of the first accounts of the camps, titled *Trois bagnes*. She married Roger Souchère on April 2, 1946. She became Secretary General of the Association of Deportees and Internees of the Resistance (ADIR). But at age 56, she had to work and became the commercial director at the Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres. She was awarded the rank of Knight and later Officer of the Legion of Honor, as well as the 1939–1945 War Cross. She died on December 5, 1984, in Paris and is buried at Père Lachaise Cemetery. This canvas, firmly stretched on its original stretcher, is in good condition. Two small imperfections are visible at the very top; see close-up photos.
The painting, which has never been cleaned and shows only minor soiling, is in very good original condition.
