Jules Gonthier, 1907–1968, Belgian painter, watercolorist, draftsman, engraver, and ship model designer. Born in Tubize, he spent his youth in Normandy due to World War I, and the region’s distinctive atmosphere would shape his entire artistic career. Upon returning to Belgium, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent. He found inspiration in the Campine region, along the shores of the North Sea, and more specifically in Bruges, where he settled in 1945. A witness with a poetic soul, his art drew on both Impressionism and Expressionism. He founded the Kunstkring 46 in 1946 with Léon De Koninck and Maurits Dousselaere. He taught art at various academies. Works are held at the Bruges Museum. The artist is listed in the Bénézit, Arto, and Piron (Dictionary of Belgian Painters). Listed on Artprice, Artnet, etc...
