Napoleon III-style Clock Set, In Black Marble And Bronze
The clock:
The central section is topped by a beautiful, finely chiseled bronze figure depicting a scholar or writer from antiquity, dressed in classical robes. The figure leans thoughtfully against a pedestal and holds a book bearing the inscription “DE RE RUSTICA,” a classical Roman work devoted to agriculture. The central section is adorned with patinated bronze decorations, including laurel wreaths, symbols of the arts and sciences, and delicate beaded friezes. The movement features a white enamel dial with Roman numerals.
The candelabra:
The set is completed by a pair of matching five-light candelabra. Each candelabra is supported by a graceful putto (cupid) standing on a natural rock base, integrated into a rich composition of budding floral motifs and finely detailed candle holders.
