Paul Eluard, "liberté, J'écris Ton Nom," Illustrated By Fernand Leger, 3rd Edition (known As The "de Klein" Edition), C. 1960
[Fernand LEGER] - Paul ELUARD - Liberty, I Write Your Name.
P., Seghers, n.d. (c. 1960), 1 eight-panel leaflet (290 x 140 folded—290 x 1115 unfolded), preserved in a period Rhodoïd slipcase.
The case is slightly cracked on one side, but otherwise a very fine copy.
Reprint of this famous “poem-object” by Paul Eluard, illuminated based on a composition by Fernand Léger, printed on bright white paper using silkscreen printing (Roger Klein, master silkscreen artist).
The extremely rare original edition was published in 1953 in a significantly larger format, with a print run of 200 numbered copies. A reprint in a format similar to ours was published the same year, but screen-printed by Romefort in Marseille on tinted paper.
This is the third edition, known as the “Klein edition,” published in the early 1960s with only the notation “ © SEGHERS” at the bottom of the panel bearing Paul Eluard’s name and the notation “Roger KLEIN, Master Screen Printer” written horizontally in the right margin of the last panel.
