This is an custode (or communion wafer box) made of silver, generally dated to the late 19th or early 20th century, shaped like a pocket watch case with a hanging ring. The lid is finely engraved in the center with a stylized Christian cross inside a geometric medallion, with a vermeil interior. This type of portable liturgical object was used by priests to carry consecrated hosts during Communion to the sick or bedridden.
