Russian Orthodox travel icon, dating from around 1900 (late Imperial period / reign of Nicholas II).
This beautiful portable devotional object depicts Christ Pantocrator facing forward, blessing with his right hand and holding the open book of the Holy Scriptures in his left hand.
Cabinet/travel size: 22 x 19.5 cm.
Oklad (Riza): Magnificent silver-plated metal casing crafted using the repoussé technique, adorned with a delicate geometric frieze chased around the perimeter.
Halo (Nimb): A raised, openwork crown in the traditional style, adorned with a delicate series of period rhinestones imitating precious stones, which lends a beautiful three-dimensional effect to Christ’s face.
Kiot (Protective Case): Original wooden box that opens with a hinge (it does not close)
